Medicare - $36.2 Trillion
In its Fiscal Year 2008 Financial Report of the United States
Government, the GAO shows Medicare to be underfunded
by $36.2 trillion.
- Federal Hospital Insurance (Medicare Part A) - $12.7
- Federal Supplementary Medical Insurance (Medicare Part B) - $15.7
- Federal Supplementary Medical Insurance (Medicare Part D) - $7.8
Medicare is already paying out more in benefits than
it receives in payroll tax revenue.
